Brant Central & Walkerton Public Joint School Community Council
Every fall provides an opportunity for all interested parents to consider joining the Brant Central Public School and Walkerton Public School Joint School Community Council. This council acts as an advisory group for the school principal, providing advice that is based on the general views of the school community and the best interests of all students in the two schools. Meetings are scheduled on a monthly basis and alternate between Brant and WPS. Topics that may be discussed include information about the new school project, student programs running at the schools, Board policies and procedures, school fundraising efforts and supporting effective communications between school and home.
School Community Council is made up of a maximum of 15 parents, drawn from both school’s parent communities. Parents can complete a self-nomination form, or can be formally nominated by other parents. Forms for these nominations are available through the offices at either school. Should more than 15 parents express an interest in sitting on the Council, an election would be held to determine the 15 parents who would sit on this year’s Council. Only those parents who self-nominate, or are elected are eligible to vote as members of the Council.
Nomination forms for this year’s School Community Council must be received by Friday, October 9, 2009. They can be dropped off at either school office or given to either of the two current co-chairs, Debbie Davidson or Betty-Anne Elliott. Should an election be necessary, it would be scheduled within two weeks of the receipt of all nomination forms.
For more information about SCC, please contact either Betty-Anne (881-1119) or Debbie (366-2379), or speak to the Principal, Mr. Robinson.
